Inventors, Emperors and Warriors Ancient China was a civilization in the East of modern day China which started at about 2,100BCE. The Chinese were great inventors coming up with fantastic ideas as silk, the compass and porcelain. The Chinese were ruled by the emperor and the Chinese people were told to organize their lives according to the ideas of the great philosopher Confucius. Chinese armies were constantly kept busy defending the empire from the invading tribes coming from the North and eventually the emperor ordered the Great Wall built to help keep them out. Chinese artists were great at calligraphy and making sculptures such as the 1,000 clay terracotta soldiers standing to guard the tomb of emperor Qin Shi Huangdi. Chinese civilization has known its ups and downs but essentially it goes on right until today. However, when talking about Ancient China, historians believe that civilization comes to an end around 200BCE.
