The Growth of Farming and Literacy
Ancient Egypt was a civilization built up around the Nile River in the North of Africa. As farmers learned how to irrigate their fields using the water form the Nile River, their lives became more comfortable. Ancient Egypt's first Pharaoh rules at about 3150BCE. Over the following thousands of years the Ancient Egyptian armies were the most powerful force in North Africa. The ancient Egyptians lived in cities built along the Nile Rive where they built great temples to honor their gods. They invented a system of writing of writing using hieroglyphics. The famous pyramids were used to house the mummies of the dead pharaohs. In the year 30BCE, the Ancient Egyptian Empire came to an end as it was invaded by the Romans.
